The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Athletes will gain the ability to challenge specific decisions made by the official, echoing the protocol already in use at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which effectively ended the 147-year tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
